Daphne Maxwell Reid

Daphne Maxwell (now Daphne Maxwell Reid) was the first black model to be featured on the cover of Glamour magazine. She appeared on the October 1969 issue of the magazine (pictured above) during the height of the civil rights movement.

Many people would recognize Mrs. Reid from her work as an actress, appearing in shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as Vivian Banks (aka Aunt Viv).
Long before her television days Daphne was already breaking through barriers for black women, becoming the first black Homecoming Queen at Northwestern University.
